"But ah'm not afraid of dyin'. Cause I know that when I get to heaven there are gonna be these wonderful trees, and ah'm gonna climb them. But you know what? Instead of leaves and flowers, those trees are gonna have fried eggs, and delicious Virginia ham, and big heaping bowls of biscuits and sausage gravy. And one day, Sammy, you're gonna meet me there, and we're gonna climb those breakfast trees together, and it's gonna be delicious and we're gonna be happy until the end of time."

Shake That Thing

Since I'm sick and miserable, here is a partial list of Things that Made Me Happy Today:

1. The Target back-to-school ad to the tune of "Baby Got Back"
2. Ruthlessly ridiculing some poor girl with OCD on Dr. Phil with Rebekah over AIM
3. Horoscopes. I find Free Will Astrology can be either wackily unintelligible, or shockingly appropriate and insightful, entertaining nonetheless. On the other hand, it seems Yahoo horoscopes are always vague enough to sound spot on, but usually tell me something I need to hear anyway. My feelings on astrology are pretty iffy, but Yahoo always seems to have something useful.
4. Got Overdrawn at the Memory Bank today. Jesse, call me.
5. The Hardee's milk shake commercial. I still fall on the floor when it comes on. Maybe that's just the medication.
6. Aisle of View. :)
7. Big Pete (of Pete and Pete) playing a murderous psychopath on Law and Order.

Oh, Forgive Me, I Thought I'd Been Invited Up Here to Admire the View

I've been grossly sick this week, and as such, I've been even lazier than usual (impossible, you say). I did manage to spend Saturday ladder hunting at The World's Largest Yard Sale, capped off with a tasty-as-all-hell Thai pizza at The Mudpie in Chattanooga. Other than that, I've been just about unwilling/able to wrench myself into a standing position for very long, and as such, have caught up on quite a few fine films with my all-too-well, handsome manfriend. Luc Besson and Jean Reno have inhabited un petit endroit spécial à mon coeur since Nikita, and have continued to ever since. They've each proven they're capable of not working together, but I, for one, do not recommend it. As such, I was a mite shocked I'd never even heard of a little film called Wasabi. I think somewhere on my list of things I needed to see before I died was a Luc Besson film, set in Japan, starring Jean Reno. In which Jean Reno attempts Dance Dance Revolution. Oh yes.
We also caught Sky Captain, which was an interesting gimmick, but I wouldn't have been upset if I'd slept through the majority. Except I couldn't because the music and Gwynneth were so damn annoying. I finally got to see The Virgin Suicides, which I watched again the following day, in French (testament to the severity of my illness), then the homecoming scene a few times to confirm that Hayden Christensen was, in fact, in it. He was. Topped it all off with Spirited Away, about which I don't have anything new to say, but it's just as good the fourth time as it is the first.
I need to find some balance in a few key areas before the end of the month. If I have a strong suit, that isn't it.

Goings on and Other Items of Interest

Knoxville traffic...not going to miss that. I spent an hour trying to get to lunch with my mother and step-father this afternoon. On the brighter side, when I walked into the Chop House dripping with sweat, my step-father was prompted to inquire if I might like to get my air conditioning fixed today. Well, yeah.

I've had more happy surprises than I rightly deserve in the last few days. After lunch, my step-father took me to Staples and got me a back-to-school present. I just want to rip it from the box and scan everything I own, but I'm trying to remember that I have to move in a few weeks. I doubt I'll hold out for long. Also, Chad (best friend ever) took my post very seriously and sent me a beautiful set of the His Dark Materials trilogy, into which I have wasted no time in sinking my teeth. I feel like the prettiest girl at the dance.

I also had the very nice surprise of running into a clean-shaven Keiran at Preservation Pub a few nights ago. I wish my parents would go out drinking with me on a Sunday night. Or ever.

Adam and Tiffany had Matt and me over for a delicious dinner last Friday, at which I drank way too much wine too fast. As usual. Whenever I find myself drinking white wine, I remember why I usually drink reds. White tastes like fruit juice, and I treat it as such. Then the mouth starts up. Stupid mouth. It was a lovely evening, however. That bamboo rug sure makes for great seating. ;)

Got Matt all moved into his fab new digs, and it was made much less painful through the dedicated effort of the Scotts, Patrick, and Matt's brother Paul. The first night warming/electronics set-up committee of Adam, Rhys, Jesse, and Tiffany was also greatly appreciated. Good. Times.

I'd like to make a second attempt to see Shakespeare in the Square this weekend. Who's with me, and when?
